One of my many life lessons is about people pleasing. Like most women, I have always suffered from the disease to please. It has been called the 'Disease to Please' and curing yourself can be quite difficult. All this month we have been in a message series titled, "Biggest Bible Buts". A couple of weeks ago I had the chance to listen to Craig Groeschel speak at the C3 Conference in Dallas, about the Disease to Please. We do ourselves a lot of harm trying to fit in with others and become who we think they want us to be, just to be loved. One thing I have become very aware of lately is the fact that my empath ability has created something else. Staying silent when you know your own truth is perhaps one of the most detrimental forms of dishonesty. Going all out to please people will be the death of you! We search for happiness in the wrong places, often in a desperate attempt to people please. And now that I think about it, help, make it all better, and do the work for people that they should be doing themselves. I completely identify with your knack for starting things, but just not quite crossing the finish line AND especially for people pleasing tendencies. In her best-selling book, psychologist-author Harriet Braiker called it, The Disease to Please.[1] This disease can plague those in Christian ministry. We climb the wrong ladders leaned against the wrong walls. When you want the applause of people, and people are sinful, you will at some point have to sin in order to please them!
